Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande reportedly cancelled a surprise performance of “Rain on Me” because of fears around social distancing.

Water like misery indeed.

The pair were reportedly set to take to the stage at a Drive N Drag show at the Rose Bowl in LA Thursday (July 31), according to Page Six.

But organisers backed away from the performance following a Chainsmokers concert in the Hamptons, whch made headlines when concert-goers failed to wear masks or practice social distancing.

“Gaga really wanted to do it, but the Rose Bowl pulled the plug because of what happened in the Hamptons,” an insider told Page Six.

“They feared that once the crowd realised who it was, they would run toward the stage, not social distance, and they feared they’d lose their licence.”

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande cancelled first-ever performance of ‘Rain on Me’.

Queer fans are absolutely heartbroken by the decision. It would have been the pair’s first live performance of the chart-topping song since its release.

While Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande won’t be making an appearance at the event, the Drag N Drive show will still go ahead, with drag stars such as Asia O’Hara, Plastique Tiara, Cameron Michaels, Jaida Essence Hall, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo and Violet Chachki performing.

Lady Gaga’s Chromatica blighted by coronavirus.

The disappointing news comes after a turbulent album campaign for Lady Gaga.

The singer was originally set to release Chromatica, her sixth album, on April 10, but it was pushed back to May 29 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The rapid spread of the virus also forced the “Stupid Love” singer to postpone a tour and severely limited other promotional opportunities.

But she has found huge success with “Rain on Me”. The Ariana Grande collaboration was released a week before Chromatica and went on to top the charts in the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland and many other countries.

The song has won the pair a number of nominations at the VMAs in the Vide of the year category as well as Song of the Year.
